Car Emission Test in Punjab Pakistan – Complete EPA Guide and Real Experience
The Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has made the vehicle emission test mandatory for all cars in the province.
From 15 November 2025, every vehicle without a valid emission sticker will face fines and legal action.
I recently got my emission test done in Valencia Town, Lahore, and honestly, it took less than 5 minutes.
Here’s everything you need to know about the process, cost, benefit, and why the government made it compulsory.
What is an Emission Test (EPA Test)?
The Emission Test checks how much smoke or harmful gases your car releases from its exhaust.
It ensures your vehicle meets the Punjab Environmental Quality Standards and doesn’t pollute the air.
Every car emits carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), and nitrogen oxides (NOx).
The EPA test measures these using a digital meter connected to your car’s exhaust.
Helpful Info: The test is part of the Punjab Government’s Clean Air Initiative 2025 to control smog
Why the Government Made It Mandatory
In recent years, Lahore and nearby cities have faced severe smog.
To reduce pollution, the government decided that all registered vehicles must pass an emission test and display a green EPA sticker.
The Goal Behind the Law
- Reduce harmful smoke from old vehicles
- Improve air quality index (AQI)
- Detect faulty engines early
- Make roads eco-friendly
Fact: As per EPA, over 70% of Punjab’s air pollution comes from untested or poorly maintained cars.
Who Needs to Get the Test
The emission test is mandatory for cars registered from 2000 and above models.
But officials recommend even newer cars take the test once a year.
Mandatory Categories
- Private cars 🚗
- Commercial vehicles 🚚
- School vans 🚐
- Ride-hailing cars (Careem, InDrive, Yango etc.)
Tip: For bikes, emission checking is optional for now, but it might become mandatory next year.
Last Date and Crackdown Warning
The official deadline to get your emission test done is 15 November 2025.
After that date:
- Vehicles without an emission sticker will be fined
- The fine amount can range from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 10,000
- Traffic police will conduct random road checks
Important: Your vehicle can be temporarily impounded until you show the valid emission certificate.
Where You Can Get the Emission Test Done in Punjab
Free & Authorized Test Points
You can visit any of the EPA-authorized emission test centers across Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Multan, and other districts.
Popular Centers in Lahore:
- Valencia Town (as per my experience ✅)
- Liberty Market, Gulberg
- Thokar Niaz Baig near Motorway Office
- Township Main Boulevard
Each center displays an EPA Certified banner with staff and a small emission testing device.
My Experience: In Valencia Town, it took less than 5 minutes, they just checked the exhaust using a small pipe and gave me the green EPA sticker instantly.

Cost of Emission Test in 2025
Currently, the test is free in most authorized centers as part of the government campaign.
However, after December 2025, the EPA may introduce a small fee (Rs. 100–200) per test.
What Happens After the Test
- If your car passes ✅ → You’ll receive a green EPA sticker
- If it fails ❌ → You’ll get a report card with readings; fix your engine and retake the test
Stick the green EPA sticker on the front windshield — it proves your vehicle is eco-friendly.
Benefits of Emission Test
- Keeps your engine healthy
- Saves fuel
- Reduces smoke and smog
- Helps fight air pollution
- Builds a positive image for Punjab

The process was fast — the staff was polite, and it hardly took 5 minutes.
They checked the car’s exhaust, printed the report, and placed the EPA sticker on my windshield.
It was free of cost and surprisingly well organized.
If you live in Lahore, get it done before 15 November — you’ll save both time and money.
